the dojo has no onboarding process to integrate and inform new members
New members are pretty much on their own to integrate themselves into the community and figure out the dojo's model and how they can help.

It's hard to do dishes
It's hard to do dishes. There is no sink, dishwasher, drying rack, or designated cupboard space. To wash dishes requires taking them to the bathroom sink.

We need a better website, better looking & streamlined for common use cases
Strong opinion: It should use Joomla or Drupal or Wordpress , or SOME sort of CMS that doesn't require programming knowledge.
Jon Hull has already made some PSD designs, but needs someone to implement CSS etc.
Another option is to just pick an attractive Joomla design and run with that first.
We would still keep the wiki, but have it at wiki.hackerdojo.com, with a link to it from main website.
Main website might have these navigation tabs:
1. Home
2. About
3. Events
4. Wiki16 votesstarted ·

working with a designer right now. plan is to use the regular app engine stack as a dojo app to create a wrapper around the wiki, so the wiki can act as a cms. optionally, a CDN can be used to speed up static content.

It smells at the Dojo
The last 4 people I gave a tour all asked me "what's that smell". 1 suggestion was to install "Air Purifiers". I'm also thinking maybe opening up the roller door during the day to move the air and get fresh air in might help.

We’re going to have the weekly cleaners open the roll up doors to air the place out weekly. Otherwise, the original issue seems to have been resolved. Will close once cleaners confirm new instructions.

Coffee beans / powder runs out
We've been running out of coffee beans / powder a lot lately. What is the process for restocking this very key ingredient to many member's productivity?

We need better desks.
The sun room has good desks but the ones on the deck & savannah are not that comfortable. As a coworking space, I think good desks are key.

Member burnout?
Some members (Katy, Brian, Stig and others) contribute much more than the median member. I'm concerned that this may engender resentment, and eventual burnout. Not sure if this is a problem yet, but people may be reluctant to say anything until it's too late, so I'm bringing it up now.

the dojo "model" is unclear
Depending on the source of info the Dojo is represented as a subscription for a service, a self-run cooperative, or a coworking site.

It is difficult to hold private client meetings at the Dojo
I recently met with a consulting client at the Dojo. We met one weekday evening and I was able to reserve the reservable cubby and it went fine. We came back Saturday and all cubbies were in use, and ended up going to his office instead. This got me thinking about the situation regarding events, cubbies, and private meetings. Clearly we all have occasional need to meet privately with clients, investors, partners, etc. at the Dojo, and the cubbies are fine for this, but it's hard to guarantee one will be available when scheduling the meeting. Currently the only ways… more

Toilets in 140A require multiple flushes
Not to be too graphic, but it often takes 3-4 flushes to actually clean everything out.

The deck and 140B upstairs is too hot while the Savanna and 140B downstairs is too cold
Heat rises.
Without air circulation, the upstairs areas (such as the deck) are way too hot while the downstairs is too cold!

We should have a better way to let members know what the dojo needs and how they can help
I think it would be great to have an app dedicated to projects happening at the dojo. It could provide a way for members to direct how the dojo grows by lending support (either physical work, materials, or donations) to the projects which are most in line with their own vision for the dojo. It could also have a voting system similar to the one here to help the directors decide what is most in need of funding from the dojo itself.
I am underwater with paid work at the moment, but once I have that under control I would… more

It is too hot in the green room & sun room during winter months
It is 78 degrees upstairs.
The heat in this zone is OFF, and hasn't run all day. The heat is from the sun, even though it is the middle of January.
The heat is ON in the other part of the building, so we can't run the air conditioning.
We have fans setup as a partial solution to circulate air.
